2022 BRONX RIVER SLOW ROLL

Saturday, November 5th from 11:00am to 1:00pm

Location: Bronx River Greenway

Join the Bronx River Greenway Team for a family-friendly ride down the Bronx River Greenway. This 5.5-mile slow roll will give us a chance to meet in person while talking about biking, our neighborhoods, and activism in the Bronx. We’ll stop at important sites along the Greenway like Shoelace Park, Ranaqua, East Tremont/177th Street, and Starlight Park. We’ll finish off the ride at Concrete Plant Park where the Edible Food Banquet will be taking place. Feel free to stick around!

IN-PERSON COMMUNITY FOOD BANQUET

Saturday, November 5th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Location: Bronx River House (1490 Sheridan Blvd)

Follow along with Journei Bimwala of Bronx River Alliance and Candace Thompson of Solar One at Stuy Cove Park as they share easy ways to make wild foods into delectable drinks and tasty snacks fit for a Wild Food Banquet. LIVE streamed to viewers through the Bronx River Alliance YouTube Channel (Youtube.com/BronxRiverAlliance), participants will build a new relationship with the wild plants growing all around them. You’ll never see the weeds in your tree pit the same ever again.

Join local foragers and community chefs in a day celebrating the harvest season! Enjoy wild food tastings, teas and wild food drinks, cooking demos, music, performances and more.

BRONX ZOO HOLIDAY LIGHTS

Friday, November 18th through Sunday, January 8th

Join us for a family holiday festival at the Bronx Zoo. During the evenings, the park comes to life with holiday cheer as immersive light displays, custom-designed animal lanterns and animated light shows sparkle across the zoo. The celebration includes festive entertainment, seasonal treats, the Holiday Train, and classic holiday music. The walk-through experience is a beloved tradition, enchanting and fun for all ages.

2022 FORDHAM ROAD SIDEWALK SALES

November 10th-13th, November 26th & 27th from 12:00pm to 7:00pm

Location: Fordham Road from Jerome to Washington Avenue

The Fordham Road BID will host sidewalk sales from 12:00pm to 7:00pm along Fordham Road twice a month this year. All are welcome and encouraged to participate! Join us from Jerome to Washington Avenues to give residents the opportunity for huge savings while shopping in their local neighborhood.

FALL FOREST WEEKEND

Saturday, November 12th and Sunday, November 13th from 11:00am to 4:00pm

Tickets: Adults: $30, Students: $28, Children (2-12): $15, Children under 2: Free

Explore over 50 acres of the Thain Family Forest – New York’s largest old-growth woodland landscape – in its full fall splendor! You’ll experience the forest through a different lens with a new visual tour from Chenae Bullock, a member and historian of the Shinnecock Nation, and in-person guided tours centering the indigenous history of the Bronx River and its environs from Moskehtu Consulting. Try your hand at colorful fall leaf identification, learn how the NYBG Herbarium staff mount and preserve botanical specimens, and follow Edgar Allen Poe’s footsteps along the Spicebush trail in this annual spotlight on the forest’s natural beauty, history, and ecological conservation efforts.

November 18–19, 23, 25–26 from 5:00pm – 10:00pm

Experience the magic of New York City’s largest outdoor holiday light experience.

This holiday season, NYBG GLOW returns for its third year. Discover the beauty of our landscape and historic buildings after dark, breathtakingly illuminated across the Garden. Building upon sold-out evenings the past two years, NYBG GLOW expands across even more of the Garden’s magnificent collections. And take in our fun-filled evening offerings with artistic, music, and pop-up performances around the Garden.

LIVING WITH URBAN COYOTES

Sunday, November 5th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Location: Pelham Bay Nature Center (Bruckner Boulevard and Wilkinson Avenue)

New York City is home to an amazing abundance of wildlife. Our Urban Park Rangers will guide you to the best wildlife viewing spots in the urban jungle. Learn about the basic biology of these super smart and energetic animals. We will also discuss how to safely coexists with these animals in our parks.

THE PELHAM BAY SUPER HIKE

Saturday, November 19th from 11:00am to 1:00pm

Location: Pelham Bay Nature Center (Bruckner Boulevard and Wilkinson Avenue)

Urban Park Ranger hiking guides will introduce you to the hidden gems of New York City. Urban Park Rangers will lead hikers through some of the hidden gems of Pelham Bay Park on a lengthy journey through the park’s diverse forests and ecosystems. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

NATURE’S WORKSHOP: FALL FOLLIAGE WATERCOLOR PAINTING

Sunday, November 6th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Location: Van Cortlandt Nature Center

Join the Urban Park Rangers for the Nature’s Workshop series. Each program in this series explores its topic in-depth and allows you to develop a skill, participate in a hands-on project, and indulge your curiosity. Get inspired by the changing seasons and let the colors of fall flow in your artwork. The Urban Park Rangers will provide the supplies, all you need to bring is your creativity.

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH: NATIVE AMERICANS PAST TO PRESENT

Saturday, November 19th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Location: Van Cortlandt Nature Center

During Native American Heritage Month, explore the past and present experience of Native Americans. Urban Park Rangers will discuss how the Lenape used the area’s plants, wildlife, and waterways, as well as how their legacy continues to persist today in the Bronx and beyond.
