Our Mission


We integrate these principles into all aspects of our work, from delicious food and striking design to attentive service to an understanding of trends and value. Founded in 1979 as a waitress service for women in the arts, Great Performances has the privilege to work with exclusive clients at some of the city’s most prestigious cultural institutions, including Jazz at Lincoln CenterBAMBrooklyn MuseumMuseum of the City of New York and the Apollo Theater.

One of our cornerstone values is community involvement. We engage in anti-hunger efforts and food rescue through our robust Sustainability Program, help cultivate a sustainable food system though our organic Katchkie Farm, and educate children about healthy eating through our work with The Sylvia Center.

And because of our deep relationships with the most enchanting venues in New York, we ensure the planning process is seamless.

Companies of all sizes and backgrounds come to us for our professionalism, service and collaboration.

  • As a nonprofit organization, you are dedicated to serving others; fundraising is the lifeline to support unique and vital programs. We recognize the work you do and stand ready to assist you with your gala, fundraiser, auction, reception or dinner. Since 1979, we have had the privilege of partnering with a wide range of not-for-profit organizations. Local, national and international groups continually turn to us because they know that we make their priorities, ours.

  • Great Performances offers food service operations and exclusive catering services for corporate and cultural institutions and landmark locations. We operate a select group of cafés and restaurants including The Norm at Brooklyn Museum, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Mae Mae Café, and BAMcafé. Partnerships with institutions are also inclusive of all catering and food services for events. Each café has a signature style, reflecting the host institution and upholding our food mission to serve seasonal and local ingredients. When possible we incorporate produce from our organic farm, Katchkie Farm. We offer special programs in our institutional cafés, including seasonal café festivals, guest chef programs in collaboration with visiting and James Beard Foundation chefs, and a proprietary line of seasonal, healthy grab-and-go food items.

  • In addition to non-profit, corporate and social events, we are thrilled to partake in some of the country's most highly-regarded special events. For several years we have served as the Official Caterer for the Miami Open, the New York Wine and Food Festival, and the South Beach Wine and Food Festival.

Food & Beverage


We have a shared goal of developing innovative and delicious dishes for our guests. Whether a dish is traditional or out of the box, it has a GP touch that makes it exquisite.

We source produce, meat, fish and dairy from local growers and purveyors. This fresh, beautiful food inspires our chefs to create seasonal meals that grace our plate. We tailor menus to each event, while remaining committed to the unmatchable flavors of the ingredients we trust. From the process of sourcing ingredients, to developing a dish, to styling the plate, we respect the integrity of our food.

All locally sourced, our 100 Mile Menu represents our commitment to celebrating local flavors while supporting sustainable agriculture and good earth practices. Simply put, food grown with love tastes better!


From the perfectly balanced classics to the endless surprises of modern mixology, our Mixologist will delight and educate you with concoctions of all varieties. We know our wines, and will be happy to suggest the best ones to accompany any food being served. In addition, we feature the work of small batch and local distilleries as well as craft breweries, and serve fresh juices, herbal infusions and house-made syrups.

Seasoned in the kitchen, hungry to explore, engaged listeners and creative spirits, our culinary team is as inventive as they are meticulous. Together, they have extraordinary depth of experience; among the team we work with, we have seasoned GP veterans, who demonstrate knowledge of GP food philosophy, and newcomers, who bring a fresh culinary perspective. As a whole, the culinary team embraces our core values: diversity, arts, farming, sustainability, community, vision and teamwork.

Farm & Sustainability


We promote sustainability through Katchkie Farm, our organic farm in Kinderhook, NY.  We take to heart the importance of responsible practices and cultivation of a sustainable food system. Recent initiatives include: use of kitchen compost program, local purchasing, compostable and biodegradable products, and recycling our kitchen oil to our farm.    

And to help feed our neighbors, surplus food from our kitchen, events and farm goes to food pantries around the city.


Owned by Great Performances, Katchkie Farm represents our commitment to celebrating local flavors while supporting sustainable agriculture and good earth practices.

Katchkie Farm sits on 60 acres in Kinderhook, NY and is managed by Farmer Bob Walker. The farm is also home to The Sylvia Center, a non-profit that introduces children to the pleasures and benefits of eating well through farm visits and cooking workshops.

Katchkie produce comes to New Yorkers through our 600-member CSA program, our farm stand at the local Rockefeller Center Greenmarket in the summer, and our line of artisanal food products. Additionally, we feature produce in event menus and café specials whenever possible.
