The Sylvia Center creates hands-on experiences that promote the pleasures of healthy and seasonal eating. At Katchkie Farm, children gain exposure to country life. They explore the vegetable beds and greenhouse; they plant and harvest. They delight in meeting our chickens - they can climb right into the coop with them! Kids prepare a farm-fresh meal themselves in our open-air kitchen. After lunch, we invite guests to enjoy the farm's five acres of rolling lawn and 15 acres of woodland trails.
Sylvia Center is a non profit organization that focuses on children's nutrition, farm education, and wellness . As home-cooked meals disappear from dinner tables, America's children face a health crisis. Juvenile obesity is epidemic; and type 2 diabetes, previously unheard of in children, is at a record high. Our programs address this crisis by encouraging children's cooking with wholesome recipes that children can take home and make with their families.

The Nation Magazine invited its readers to tell about their most beloved food institutions. Check out what a happy Sylvia Center parent writes: In June my 7-year-old daughter attended a cooking class at the Sylvia Center. They used farm fresh ingredients to make pizza, pasta, stuffed zucchini boats and barbeque sauce, not to mention some amazing fruit desserts. My daughter had a blast. Most important, she became aware of all the effort, on many people's parts, that it takes to prepare great, healthy food. She decided for herself that the rewards made it worth it. - Barrie Schwartz
