Katchkie Farm is a year-round organic farming operation owned by Great Performances. An industry first, Katchkie Farm represents commitment to celebrating local flavors while supporting sustainable agriculture and good earth practices. Katchkie sits on 60 acres in Columbia County, NY, yielding its first harvest in 2007. Farm Manager Bob Walker transformed the never-before-farmed property, building the essential infrastructure. Katchkie supplies Great Performances with fresh produce for special events, as well as three farmer's markets throughout New York and GP's six cafes. It is the source for a line of artisanal products including the acclaimed Katchkie Ketchup, Thunder Pickles, and Katchkie Farm Bob-A-Que Sauce. As a unique resource to GP, the Farm is the inspiration for the company's precedent-setting 100 Mile Menu for which all principal ingredients are sourced from within a 100-mile radius of New York City. The Farm is also home to The Sylvia Center, an educational nonprofit that introduces children to the pleasures and benefits of healthful food through farm visits and cooking workshops. Katchkie Farm's philanthropic role further includes committing 5% of its annual harvest to anti-hunger organizations, notably City Harvest and Yorkville Common Pantry. The Farm hosts numerous public events throughout the year and participates in a Manhattan CSA. Farm Project Coordinator Alice Walton writes about the Farmers' Markets of New Haven.
