THE PLAZA GRAND BALLROOM HOSTS NBC's "TODAY THROWS A WEDDING"

Newlyweds Enjoy Exclusive 100-Mile Menu and Signature Cocktail

Leigh and Nick, the former Olympic hopefuls who captured the hearts of viewers during the 10th annual TODAY Show Wedding, celebrated their nuptials with a lavish reception broadcast live from the legendary Grand Ballroom at The Plaza Hotel, managed by CPS Events.

The lucky couple's wedding at the ultimate New York wedding venue was attended by 175 guests, who enjoyed a custom 100 Mile Menu created by Executive Chef Chris Harkness with dishes sourced within 100 mile of the Grand Ballroom including Katchkie Farm Tomato Terrine, Local Roasted Monkfish over Sweet Pea Risotto, Herb Seared Filet of Beef with Tender Gnocchi, Baby Mushrooms, Sauteed Spinach, and Cabernet Demi Glaze and for dessert Ricotta Tort with Toasted Almonds and Blueberries.

In keeping with the local theme, a special 100 Mile Cocktail, The Pomona, was created to toast the couple. Named after the goddess of abundance (whose statue adorns the fountain outside The Plaza's main entrance), the Pomona is made from American Fruits Black Currant Cordial, Lieb Family Cellars Blanc de Blancs (a Long Island sparkling wine), and local honey.

The colorful centerpieces by Jes Gordon/properFUN were inspired by the old world opulence of The Plaza and the new fashion-forward elements of the modern bride. Celebrity wedding lighting designer Bentley Meeker, who has created dramatic Plaza weddings for Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta Jones and Melissa Rivers, provided the room's romantic glow. The elegant table linens in the Grand Ballroom were provided by Magnolias Linens, LLC.  Kathryn Papanek blogged live on the reception for Brides.com's blog, Wedded Bits.

I walked over to the burger joint for a good burger, some fries and 2 Guinness to bring back to my Plaza Suite to watch the All-Star Game. I can't believe the National League lost again! I fell asleep right after the game and it seemed like seconds later the alarm clock went off.  Down to the ballroom at 4am to greet the NBC entourage.  At the same time, bride Leigh Daniel and groom Nick Cordes headed over to Rockefeller Plaza for their wedding ceremony.

Pressure

One of my favorite songs growing up was "Pressure" from Billy Joel.  As I grew up working in kitchens, it made a lot of sense to me.  My favorite line is "you have to learn to pace yourself, you're just like everybody else." I have always gravitated to high pressure jobs that can put you under the microscope at every turn. I guess it's how I deal with the pace at which my mind is working; if it's occupied, all is good.  Great Performances certainly keeps me in that state everyday.
