WSCAH created the gold standard for food pantries across the country, utilizing a supermarket-style pantry along with social services and job training/placement. Last year they provided 1.3 million meals for 18,121 people.
Students and graduates of the Chef Training Program have been working with Andrea Bergquist to learn knife skills and cooking techniques to prepare for employment in the culinary industry. They have been prepping and creating recipes for the 2017 Harvest Dinner November 14.
The dinner will honor Stewart Desmond, who joined WSCAH in 2008 at Development Director, growing the organization into one of the city’s largest emergency food providers and leading the development of the Mobile Pantry, which launched this Fall and will distribute an additional 400,000 pounds of food to 2,000 families.
