The Oak Room: Now Open For Private Events
CPS Events at The Plaza
by Ali Papalia

What a marvelous opportunity! The Oak Room is available for events through June!

From now until June 2017, CPS Events at The Plaza has taken over the Oak Room! For a limited time only, we can host catered functions within the famed Men’s Bar! At a very competitive price, the Oak Room & Bar is available for rent for dinner parties, holiday cocktails, or any special occasion. We can comfortably fit up to 300 for cocktail receptions and approximately 120 for a seated dinner.

The Oak Room, rumored to be Plaza architect Henry Hardenbergh’s favorite piece of work, was a men’s only club all the way until 1969! Although women were allowed to accompany men to dinner, the lunch crowd accepted no such thing. I’m sure Gloria Steinem had it on her list of targets! But admittedly, the history is charming.

Built in 1907, the Oak Room was made of just that…oak! Protected by the New York City Landmarks Preservations Commission and the National Register of Historic Places, the dark wood is still in pristine condition today. From the details in the wood work, the enchanting columns that tower into the sky, to the 25 foot ceilings, everything is as it was 107 years ago. Well, everything except one big detail-the original oak bar that ran the length of the dining room, was removed. I know what you’re thinking- no, it wasn’t the work of former owners, the Trumps. It was the United States of America, specifically the 18th Amendment to the United States Constitution.  Prohibition began January 29, 1919 in the state of New York and did not end until 1933. The beautiful bar was taken out; one assumes that they didn’t want anyone to be enticed. No speak easy here!

We are thrilled about such an exciting opportunity and hope we can share it with all of our friends. For more information, please call 212-549-0550 or email to plan your next event!
