With so many weddings as my main focus, I warmly welcome wintertime Bar or Bat Mitzvahs -especially if they involve a creative theme! Sweet Ally Jane most certainly had a Bat Mitzvah for the record books this past January 30th! I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie, Ally's incredibly inventive mother who is truly one of kind! Debbie has a background in floral design, which when working with master event designer Ed Libby, together as a team these two are a dynamic duo that's incredible to watch! We had a lot of fun sorting through different floor plans and conceptualizing a flow for the special day! It was very important to Debbie that this wasn't a kid’s party or an adult’s party. This was a family affair and we decided on having a fun lounge seating concept with buffet stations that all the guests; young and younger could enjoy together!
Ally is one of 4 children and her two older brothers had some super successful Bar Mitzvahs in the past and now it was her turn! She and Debbie decided on a Candy theme! Brilliant! Who wouldn't want to step food in a candy wonderland in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel!?
The week of the event arrived and we were so thankful that we had survived Winter Storm Jonas and that this party was about to be Red Hot! On Thursday, Ally performed her ceremonial reading of the Torah in a women's only ceremony at her synagogue. It was personal and intimate and she did a spectacular job!
Soon, Saturday night arrived and the guests came first to the Terrace Foyer where Vanessa of Vivid Events provided all the kids’ entertainment for the first hour that even included a hip and cool recording studio! And being that Ally is a superstar basketball player, there had to be a fun and competitive hoops game too! The adults made their way into the Terrace Room and were greeted by a giant, and I mean giant gumball machine which served as the escort card table. Each guest picked up their mini gumball machine that gave them their lounge seating assignment. Photos of this candy extravaganza were captured by Michael Jurick Photography. To see more photographs of the evening, head over to Michael Jurick's blog here: http://goo.gl/sxfLKX They then made their way to the colorful candy and soda shop style bar that was multi colored and served lots of delicious cocktails! On their way down to the bar they passed the largest Hersey Kiss I had ever seen that was made out of Silver Balloons and went from Floor to Ceiling! Guests were delighted to also nibble on a gorgeous Sushi Station provided by Noam Sokolow of Rave Kosher Caterers!
As the cocktail hour ended all the guests made their way to the Grand Ballroom Foyer where they were greeted by a conveyer belt drink station with mini Absolut Vodka shots and frozen glasses that read Absolut Ally! It was one of the many hits of the night!
As they walked into the Ballroom, everyone couldn't help but notice the glorious Candy Chandelier that was hanging over an all-white custom dance floor that read "Sweet Ally Jane". Super chic white lounge furniture filled the rest of the space each with their own Candy Table Names! Each area had low coffee style table that Debbie herself had created each table top out of gum balls. And to top it off there were adorable candy topiary trees and centerpieces on each table!
Tom Kaufman provided the DJ for the evening and Ally and
her friends dominated the dance party while the adults had an amazing time
dancing too! The dance party only needed to stop when Ally's father Glenn along
with Debbie and her siblings gave Sweet Ally Jane a toast! Her dad and her
brothers were of course adored in matching candy ties! It was too sweet! A
montage was shown that the entire crowd enjoyed before the dance party kicked
off again! While the guests were rocking out Debbie, Ally and her younger
sister Sammy had a surprise dress change! They all came out in the most
fantastic dresses made of REAL candy! What Debbie created on her own was
amazing! Debbie's dress was made of Black Licorice, Ally's was made from
Skittles and Sammy looked adorable in her Smarties outfit! The guests went nuts
As the night came to an end, the Sweet Ally Jane Sweet Shop opened for business! Vanessa had created a completely custom Candy Store where the guests could fill their swag bag with any of the delicious Sweet Treats all adorned with Ally's name! There was even a custom Starbucks Station complete with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Billy’s Bakery Cupcakes to-go!
These guests certainly left The Plaza on quite a high! A big fabulous Sweet Ally Jane Sugar High!
