Save the Children Illumination Gala 2016
CPS Events At The Plaza
by Sasha Lal

Every year we are so fortunate to host many of the leading blue chip non profits which benefit & affect all parts of the globe.  This month, the Save the Children Federation returned to The Plaza for their Illumination Gala!

Partnering with Save the Children’s wonderful event team to put on this fabulous event made the evening as wonderful as one could imagine. We were enthralled in the planning of this event from the get-go.  From selecting their gorgeous trustee Jennifer Garner as host of the dinner and Jennifer Nettles as the evening’s entertainment; to attending the numerous site visits for all those involved; anything less than perfection was not an option.

This year, with the help of GV Creative, vinyls of children guided the guests up the Grand Staircase and into a video tunnel sponsored by Johnson & Johnson where they were surrounded by images of children laughing. As the tunnel opened into the Terrace Room guests marveled at the room’s beauty while they were served butler passed white wine & sparkling water and a tasty array of hors d’oeuvres to get the evening started. Guests were then ushered back through the tunnel and up to the Grand Ballroom.

All the while, the step & repeat was gleaming with familiar Save the Children supporters, honorees, and speakers such as Jennifer Garner, Dakota Fanning, and Jennifer Nettles, just to name a few.

Guests made their way to the Grand Ballroom where a beautiful Hen of the Woods Mushroom & Kale Chiffonade with Toasted Almonds, Edible Blossoms and White Balsamic Vinaigrette awaited each attendee at their seat.  Jennifer Nettles captured the crowd with a welcome performance.  Then came the entrée – a yummy plate of Beef Bourguignon with Creamy Polenta and Truffle Honey  We wrapped up dinner with the light but delicious Blackberry Key Lime Parfait and the most delicious spread of chocolate covered strawberries and brownie squares.

Between the video tunnel, the ornately lit stage, and the bell jars full of lights as centerpieces, the “illumination” gala truly came to life.
