A Note from the Editor:
Amy Charowsky has been a hardworking and much appreciated member of Great Performances' event staff since 2011, and has performed for years in our annual staff show! When she is not delivering excellent event service, she delivers laughs and entertainment on stages throughout New York City.
She has recently landed an opportunity to perform at one of Great Performances exclusive venues, Jazz at Lincoln Center, where she has spend much time on the catering side of things.
From Serving to Performing at Rose Theater at JALC: A few words from Amy herself
I am in the chorus of Orphic Moments, which is happening in the Rose Theater at Jazz on May 6 at 8:30 pm and May 7 at 7 pm. The concert is Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice blended with a much newer cantata by Matthew Aucoin.
Personally, having spent so many hours working at Jazz but never actually getting into the Rose Theater, I am excited for the opportunity to experience a different side of the venue!
We have not gotten to work in the space yet, but it is shaping up to be a very immersive and engaging night of opera and dance! We are planning to use the space in an interesting way to be amidst the audience and not just on the stage. It will be customized to the vibe of the theater.
I have done operas-in-concert with this group before (I have been with them since 2007 and we have always done a wide variety of concerts). This is probably the most staged one we’ve ever done though!
I'm also in a new musical improv group, called Winston. The name is based on a video game character, but vague enough that it still sounds like a cool name.
Both of these engagements are regular and sometimes other opportunities come up. My life requires a balance and allowing myself say no to some things.
