NYFW at The Plaza
CPS Events at The Plaza
by Rob Arango

When Dennis called me and said he wanted to bring his show back to The Plaza, he informed me that he wanted to make sure his clothes would have an elegant backdrop in the famous Grand Ballroom.  Last Monday Dennis didn’t disappointment any of us.  According to Dennis, “the color palette of Spring – Summer 2018 consists of warm spice and vibrant tones in rust, khaki, cayenne, violet and aqua, mixed with earthy neutrals in vanilla and sand.”  Silk chiffons, Georgette and tulle ruled the runway!  Every garment needs an it girl of the moment and the breakthrough 16-year-old who started and ended the show with a walk around with Dennis on her arm, was Amelia Gray Hamlin. The daughter of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Rinna and actor Harry Hamlin.  Amelia was attacked by the media before the show – everyone wanted to speak with her and famous mother who, yours truly, got a picture of the proud parents.  I saw Amelia run to the back of the house—which means our kitchens in search of a bathroom.  I introduced myself and escorted her to the nearest bathroom.  Her nerves got the best of her.  Even Amelia knew she was at the start of something big in her career as a top most sought after model.  There is a craze happening with famous A-list celebrity kids walking the runways of Paris and New York.  It started with Bella Hadid and her sister Gigi and Kendall Kardashian.  That trio seems to be booked for every major show.  This week we saw another 15-year-old break out—Gia Gerber—daughter of famous 80’s model Cindy Crawford and father Randy Gerber.  Gia looks strikingly, just like Cindy did 30 years ago.

Several New York socialites looked at me to say why do I know you—I am the guy who makes sure your entrées are perfect every time you attend a Gala at The Plaza.  Not famous but useful to know me when you want the right thing to eat. The most famous person actually did sit right next to me.  Bob Mackie –the genius of over 6 decades of designing for Cher, Carol Burnett, and countless other celebrates look so fabulous in front of the camera.  I introduced myself and told Bob how I loved his designs and that he was a true treasure among the greats of American fashion designers.  Also, in the packed room was an appearance by Ivana Trump dressed in a vibrant leopard print coat and a huge blonde bouffant. Also spotted was Broadway’s Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen) and Rachel Lindsay from the Bachelorette with her finance Bryan Abasolo. All in all the Grand Ballroom proved to be a spectacular backdrop for Dennis’ gorgeous collection.
