Every wedding comes with its own special love story, and Lilian’s and Tony’s embodied one of the sweetest I have gotten to experience so far. From our first interaction, it was clear how excited they were to create a one-of-a-kind, special day, to seal the deal. Typically, we see the grooms let their brides do most of the planning, but not in this case. Tony & I were frequently in touch, reviewing all the details to make sure everything was perfect; from the Ballroom diagrams, to the hors d’oeuvres and even their specialty flower wall!
A few months before the big day they brought in former Plaza bride, Annie Shon, to help finalize and execute details. Annie was married at The Plaza in 2012, so it was really special that she was able to share her insight and tips with the couple in planning their big day. We also teamed up with our good friends at Tantawan Bloom to handle the florals, and we knew it was going to be spectacular with some special details!
The weekend started off on Saturday evening with a quick rehearsal to familiarize the bridal party with all aspects of the ceremony. Lilian was dressed in a stunning white beaded gown, and all her friends could not take their eyes off of her. After a quick walk down the aisle, they were off to dinner at Hakkasan!
The special day arrived with everyone excitedly preparing, including Tantawan Bloom in tow with tons of beautiful flowers. They immediately began work on a large feature floral wall that would be used first as a backdrop for an elaborate escort card display, and later for a photo booth. As Lilian requested, the Grand Ballroom was filled with pink; pink roses, cherry blossoms, and elegant white orchids overflowed from the delicate crystal centerpieces. The bride and groom, along with their bridal party, began getting ready as they anxiously awaited the start to their special evening.
The festivities began with the couples’ first look, as Lilian elegantly descended the Grand Staircase to Tony eagerly awaiting below. They were quickly whisked off for photos with family and the bridal party, a tea ceremony for immediate family, and then into the main ceremony. The couple participated in a very special “Rose Ceremony” in which they each gave a rose to their respective mothers. It was an extremely touching and emotional moment that brought most of the audience to tears! Soon after, they shared their first kiss as husband and wife and the party began!
Guests were led upstairs to find their escort cards, which were resting on champagne flutes in front of the floral wall, and they then mingled during the cocktail hour before being welcomed into the ballroom. The bridal party was announced, and Tony and Lilian made their grand entrance and shared a special first dance. A very classic Plaza evening got a spin when they changed into traditional Chinese wear, and performers entered the ballroom for a Lion Dance! The crowd had a ball and danced for the rest of the evening, until it was time for farewells. It truly was a night full of love and celebration, and everyone departed with smiles on their faces.
