He might be delusional, but our intern Andrew likes to think he was drinking green smoothies way before it was cool. One might argue that this recipe, loosely based on the Mexican summertime drink horchata, is merely a fancy milkshake masquerading as a health drink. However, Andrew would respond by pointing out that the drink contains a scant tablespoon of natural sweetener and is a great way to use up extra greens from the farm. Even his brother who harbors a near phobia of cruciferous vegetables has been known to steal sips of this drink. He is thrilled to be finally sharing the gospel of this drink outside the four walls of his tiny apartment.
1 handful of Katchkie Farm greens (kale or spinach both work great)
1 banana, cut into small chunks and frozen
1 heaping spoonful of almond butter
2 cups of unsweetened almond milk or rice milk
1 Tbs. agave nectar syrup
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and mix on high for 30 seconds until completely smooth.
