Great Performances hosts James Beard chefs in its kitchen in Hudson Square, and we feature rotating food specials from JB chefs in our cafés and restaurants. Lately, we’ve also been partnering with celebrity chefs – collaborating for wonderful parties and great causes. Here are a few highlights.
Francis Mallmann at 287 Gallery
As part of the U.S. launch for #h41, a new wild lager with a rare yeast found in Patagonia, GP partnered with lauded Patagonian chef Francis Mallmann for two dinners featuring his world-renowned ‘fire food.’ The event featured a unique set up of vegetables and meats slowly, delicately roasting over wonderfully fragrant open flames. It was an exciting grilled feast for the eyes, nose and stomach – and an honor to work with Chef Mallmann.
For a two-day event discussing global goals, with speakers including Barack Obama, we continued the war on food waste with chef Dan Barber, serving plates like House-made Fish Trim Sausage, Dog Fish Baja Ceviche Tostaditas and Fermented Grape Leaf Dolmas.
Schnitzel at the Frick Collection
We partnered with Kurt Gutenbrunner for a September event to re-create his world-famous veal wiener schnitzel for a seated dinner at The Frick Collection, along with Chilled Smoked Trout Crepes with Caviar, Potato Cucumber Salad, Chestnut Soup and more. Gutenbrunner is Chef and owner of Wallse, Cafe Sabarsky, Blaue Gans, Upholstery Store: Food & Wine.

At this year’s City Harvest BID, the organization broke its record, raising $1.5 million through its partnership with some of the world’s best chefs.
