The red carpet was ready. Water dishes out. Biscuits in my tuxedo pocket. Yes, it is that time of year again! This year, ASPCA Bergh Ball celebrated its 150th year rescuing our furry friends. I am privileged to host 40 of the most prominent nonprofit Galas a year but when the dogs come as our VIP guests—it is full on Plaza “Very Important Pet” treatment! This year our friends in need thanked actress Drew Barrymore who was honored.
The centerpieces were dog and cat carousel cutouts that went hand in hand with the evening’s carnival theme. Customized flower crowns by b Floral were given to guests to wear; I walked Martha Stewart from the red carpet to the flower station where she preferred to wear it as a necklace, rather than a headpiece. Martha, a regular guest at The Plaza, introduced Drew Barrymore.
Gala emcee, two-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane, kept the crowd laughing with his witty and caustic humor, while guest dined on the fish – we never serve beef at this event. The gala featured music by Grammy award winning musician and producer Mark Ronson while guests celebrated the ASPCA’s 150th anniversary.
Once again, I must give a shout out to Linda Lambert, board member and animal lover who has spear headed this Gala for years. Linda’s passion and commitment to ASPCA is an outstanding example of how much good you can do.
As I got into my cab, I was thinking about how lucky my German Shorthair girls are – and hoping that all the puppies were adopted.
We Ruff you, ASPCA! The event raised nearly $1.4 million for the continued efforts to improve the lives of animals nationwide.
