The #1 Guest Favorite: Pigs-in-a-Blanket

There are many things that can make or break a wedding.  The weather (especially at an outdoor affair), the entertainment (a DJ or band leader that can't get the crowd on the floor should look for a different line of work) and of course the food.

For me, a wedding that serves pigs-in-a-blanket (PIB) is not going to make a wedding by itself, but it does get points in the win column.  I don't know where this obsession came from - my dad has it too so maybe it's an inherited trait - but I just love them.

I recently went to a wedding that served a "fancy" version of PIB - lamb wrapped in dough with a mango chutney.  I was very intrigued and took a bite and I'm sorry but there really is no substitute for the traditional hot dog.  And there really is no other kind of mustard to serve except deli mustard, like Gulden's - sorry, French's - and honey mustard just won't work.

There is of course the downside to eating pigs-in-a-blanket during the cocktail hour - eating too many of them.  I unfortunately ate over a dozen at one wedding when the band didn't show up and the cocktail hour spread to over two hours.  So I'd say limit the number you eat.  You should save room for the main course and wedding cake (another favorite).

As for thinking that pigs-in-a-blanket isn't classy enough for a wedding I'd have to disagree.  You'd be surprised how many of your guests ask the waiters for them, so don't be afraid to serve this kid and adult-friendly finger food at your wedding.  It's one of the few foods that everyone will enjoy!
