FOOD AND FINANCE HIGH SCHOOL THROWS GALA FOOD AND FASHION EVENT

When: Thursday, December 3rd , 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Where: The Bromley, 225 West 83rd Street, New York, NY

Food and Finance High School, a public high school located on Manhattan's West Side, will hold a first annual Food and Fashion gala.  The event, hosted by former City Councilmember Ronnie Eldridge, will feature the fashion designs of Gabrielle Carlson.  She will donate a percentage of sales of her latest designs, accessories and holiday gift items. Students from the school will cater the event.  A silent auction will feature food and meals from leading restaurants and bakeries in New York.

Food and Finance High School prepares students from throughout New York City for college and careers in the food industry.  The High School is partnered with Cornell University which brings enhanced academics to the school.  Cornell runs a state-of-the art aquaculture lab in the school, in which a Cornell scientist works with students in raising more than 4,000 tilapia fish, and a hydroponics lab in which fresh produce is produced regularly.  Fish and produce are used in the schools' culinary arts and catering programs and used to promote sustainability and healthy eating among students and faculty.

This unique school offers a rigorous academic curriculum in addition to intensive cooking and baking classes taught in professional kitchens.  Students graduate with both a New York State Regents diploma as well as official certifications of the food industry.  Students participate in catering activities, cooking competitions, and volunteer events.  In their senior year, students work in paid internships at establishments such as Amy's Bread, Shake Shack, Bryant Park Grill, Great Performances and Craft Restaurant.

The gala will raise funds to assist students in paying for college application fees, scholarships, licensing, and expanding student-run businesses.
