On Aug. 8, at CEO Liz Neumark’s invitation, I joined 130 food-conscious individuals for a celebration of local foods at a Farm to Table dinner at Katchkie Farm in Kinderhook. Farm to Table dinners celebrate a concept called “The 100-Mile Menu” — a full dinner, from farm to table within 36 hours, all local, no mystery. Great Performances uses Katchkie Farm as its primary source of food for catering. The evening was an eye-opener, even to someone familiar with food politics. The food was inventive, sophisticated and beautiful -- and there we were, eating it all right in front of all the unpicked vegetables!
